Teaching and learning

Teaching

You'll be taught and supported by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience. Our practice-based approach to learning will enable you to enhance your knowledge and skills as well as adapt to an ever-changing environment. The Business Start-up module, for example, gives you the opportunity to link real-life issues to business while engaging with entrepreneurs and business experts from the industry.

You'll hone your practical business management skills through workshops, simulations, role play, case study analysis and problem-solving exercises.

Seminars and workshops are a great opportunity to discuss what you have learnt in lectures and through independent study with your peers and tutors.

Most seminar groups have around 20 to 30 students.

Work is divided into credits of approximately 12 hours per week in classroom study time.

You will need to complete 120 credits per year, which are broken down into modules of typically 30 credits.

You will be studying at our leafy north London campus in Hendon.

Your course timetable will balance your study commitments on campus with time for work, life commitments and independent study.

We aim to make your timetable available at least two weeks before the start of term. Some weeks are different due to how we schedule classes and arrange on-campus sessions.

Your weekly timetable will typically consist of:

  • Four hours of lectures
  • Three hours of seminars
  • Three hours of workshops.

Teaching vs independent learning

Your course will require your active participation in learning activities and engagement with your fellow students both individually and collaboratively. You will work and learn with other students as part of a small group.

Outside of teaching hours, you’ll learn independently through self-study. This will involve reading articles and books, working on projects, undertaking research and preparing for assessments, including coursework and presentations.

You'll also use online learning resources and do your own research, directed reading and independent study.

Our excellent teaching and support teams will help you develop the skills relevant to your degree, from research and practical skills to critical thinking.

Our Sheppard Library is open from 7am to 11pm Monday to Sunday during term time.

We offer free 24-hour laptop loans with full desktop software, free printing and Wi-Fi to use on or off campus, even over the weekend.

Your knowledge and understanding is assessed by tests, essays and other written assignments and presentations.

You'll also be assessed by practice-based individual and group coursework assignments.

We'll test your understanding and progress with informal and formal tests.

The informal tests usually take place at least once per module, from which you’ll receive feedback from your tutor. The grades from these tests don’t count towards your final marks.

Formal assessments, usually at the end of the module, will count towards your module and your final marks.

Assessments are reviewed annually and may be updated based on student feedback or feedback from an external examiner.

To help you achieve the best results, we will provide regular feedback.

UK Government information on tuition fees for UK undergraduate students in the 2027/2028 academic year

If your course starts on or after 1 January 2027 and you're eligible, you may need to apply for funding through the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE). Applications open in September 2026. This funding will also be available for eligible modules.

More about the LLE.

The changes below will apply from 1 August 2027. The government intends to lay regulations implementing these changes in early 2026 and will be subject to Parliamentary procedure. Further information can be found at .

For the 2027/28 academic year, it is anticipated that the maximum annual tuition fee applicable to UK undergraduate students for approved providers will increase to:

  • £10,050 for standard full-time courses
  • £12,060 for full-time accelerated courses
  • £7,530 for part-time courses.

This means that if you start your studies in September 2026 on a standard full-time course, you will pay an annual tuition fee of £9,790 for your first year. This will rise to £10,050 for your second year of study starting in September 2027.

Subsequent tuition fee rises for UK undergraduate students

Depending on the duration of your study, your tuition fees for subsequent academic years beyond the 2027/28 academic year may be subject to further inflationary increases by the UK government. This means that the fee set out above is likely to be increased again for the 2028/29 academic year.

Any annual increase in tuition fees as provided for above will be notified to students directly in writing at the earliest opportunity in advance of the academic year to which the rise may apply.

The following study tools are included in your fees.

  • Free access to the resources, learning materials and software you need to succeed on your course
  • Free laptop loans for up to 24 hours
  • Free printing for academic paperwork.

The following course-related costs are not included in the fees, and you will need to budget for these.

  • Desktop or laptop computer with a stable internet connection, plus a webcam, microphone and headset.
