Dr. Deonaran is a Chartered Psychologist, Chartered Scientist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), Fellow of Advance HE, and a BPS-registered Psychotherapist. He is also an Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor with specialist expertise spanning Legal Psychology, Decision Science, Forensic Science, and Psychotherapy.
Having completed his professional training in the United Kingdom, Dr. Deonaran has built an extensive career across forensic, clinical, correctional, and higher education settings. His professional journey began at the Shaftesbury Clinic, a Regional Secure Unit in London, before progressing to Her Majesty鈥檚 Prison Wandsworth鈥攐ne of Europe鈥檚 largest correctional institutions. He later served as a Forensic Psychotherapist and Honorary Lecturer at HMP/YOI Holloway and contributed significantly to mental health service development and reform within Pentonville Prison.
With over two decades of experience, Dr. Deonaran has worked extensively in the assessment, treatment, and management of a wide range of psychological and mental health conditions. Alongside maintaining a private psychotherapy practice, he currently serves as Head of Counselling and Wellbeing Services at Middlesex University, where he provides strategic leadership in advancing student wellbeing, mental health support, and psychological services.
Dr. Deonaran's academic and professional contributions have been widely recognised. He has been honoured with the Best Professor in Health Award by the African Education Leadership Committee, awarded Chartered Scientist status by the UK Science Council, and elected as a Fellow of Advance HE in recognition of his commitment to excellence in higher education and professional practice.
His doctoral research focused on the intersection of psychology and law, examining English admissibility jurisprudence, judicial decision-making, forensic expertise, and evidential reasoning. This scholarly work reflects his enduring interest in understanding how psychological science informs legal processes, expert testimony, and decision-making within complex forensic environments.
